YOUR VISIT AT A GLANCE
Bordeaux suits both a city visit and a longer journey through the vineyards of south-west France. The centre along the Garonne has its own architecture, museums and restaurants. A château visit in the Médoc or Saint-Émilion needs separate ground planning rather than a generic city transfer.
BEYOND THE ARRIVAL
A river city before the vineyard visit
Bordeaux has enough substance for a city visit in its own right. The Garonne quays, stone façades and broad squares show the legacy of a trading port. Around the Grand Théâtre and the historic centre, a walk can combine architecture with a stop indoors without needing a vehicle between every sight.
The Chartrons district adds the history of the wine trade, while the wider wine country begins beyond the city programme. Médoc and Saint-Émilion are different directions, not neighbouring quarters. If wine is the main purpose, choose the estate appointments first and then decide how much city time to add on either side.
Grand Théâtre de BordeauxPlaces worth exploring

Place de la Bourse
The classical riverfront square is a useful starting point for the historic centre. Continue along the quays to understand how the Garonne shaped Bordeaux.

Cité du Vin
This cultural centre explores wine through history, geography and different traditions. It adds context before a trip to the vineyards outside Bordeaux.

Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport
Bordeaux-Mérignac lies west of Bordeaux. It serves city visits, the wine-growing areas and onward travel towards the Atlantic coast. For a château visit, the name of the appellation is not enough: the precise estate address determines the transfer.
Indicative road journeys. The terminal, final address and traffic affect the time. Dotted ends link the road to the marked place; this overview is not a navigation map.
Your onward journey
Send the final address, especially if you are continuing straight to a wine estate. A city-centre transfer does not represent the journey into the vineyards. For several appointments, group them geographically and allow time for the visit itself rather than just the driving distance.
Plan around your final address
A flight serving central Bordeaux and one serving Saint-Émilion or the Médoc may require very different road plans.
Airport details and arrival guidance →TIMING YOUR TRIP
When to travel
Spring and autumn suit vineyard travel. Harvest periods can limit access to working estates, so confirm appointments before fixing a tightly packed itinerary.
Spring
The quays and historic centre suit a visit with generous walking time. An estate visit can be added by appointment, but it is worth keeping part of the day for Bordeaux itself.
Summer
Combine outdoor sightseeing with indoor cultural stops. For a longer stay, choose one wine-country direction for a day rather than crossing between both banks repeatedly.
Harvest & cooler months
Harvest activity makes advance appointments particularly important; it is not a promise of visitor access. The city’s architecture and museums provide a useful programme when vineyard plans are limited.

AIRCRAFT TO CONSIDER
Choose the space you need
Compare passenger seats, luggage and cabin space. The operator confirms the aircraft’s suitability for the airports and the particular flight.
Before your visit
Can I combine Médoc and Saint-Émilion in one short visit?⌄
It is possible with sufficient time, but they are different road itineraries. For a brief trip, fewer appointments in one area usually leave more time for the visits and less for transfers.
Which airport should I choose?⌄
Bordeaux-Mérignac lies west of Bordeaux. It serves city visits, the wine-growing areas and onward travel towards the Atlantic coast. For a château visit, the name of the appellation is not enough: the precise estate address determines the transfer.
How long is the airport transfer?⌄
The indicative road journey from the airport shown on this map to the city centre is 25-45 minutes. The exact terminal, address and traffic affect the journey. Select a point on the map to compare the available local destinations.
What should I send with a charter request?⌄
Send your dates, departure point, passenger count and final address. Mention large bags or sports equipment and any fixed appointment. We can then compare the flight and onward journey together.
