Faro is more than the arrival airport for the Algarve. Its walled old town, cathedral and lagoon make it worth a stay of its own. It also works as a starting point for the central and eastern Algarve, while destinations further west require a longer transfer.

The protected lagoon landscape offers a different Algarve from the busy beaches. Boat trips and island visits depend on departure points, weather and the time available.
Faro Cathedral
Visit the cathedral in Faro’s walled old town and explore the surrounding squares on foot. It is a compact cultural stop before or after time by the lagoon.

Enter the old quarter through the arch and continue on foot towards the cathedral.
