Portugal
Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport

AIRPORT OVERVIEW
Porto’s airport lies northwest of the city and provides access to Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and northern Portugal. A city-centre transfer is different from a drive into the Douro Valley: agree the final destination before comparing flight options.
Is this the right airport for your trip?
Private flights share the airport with airline traffic. Confirm the handling address and allow separately for a longer onward drive to a vineyard or estate.
Runway length is a useful reference, not a guarantee that every aircraft can operate here. The operator checks performance, load and the conditions for the actual flight.
LOCATION & PURPOSE
Where this airport works well
Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is a gateway to northern Portugal, not just Porto. The historic centre lies southeast of the airport, while Vila Nova de Gaia is across the Douro from central Porto. Visits to the coast, the city and wine estates farther inland should be treated as different transfer plans. This is especially useful when several appointments are planned on the same day.
PRIVATE FLIGHT ARRIVAL
Terminal and meeting point
Private flights use an international airport that also handles scheduled passenger services. Do not infer a private-flight meeting point from a public arrivals map: the handling instructions identify where passengers and their driver should meet. If the charter follows an airline arrival, the connection is a separate movement between flights. Share the airline details so time can be allowed for baggage, formalities and the transfer to the next departure.

AIRPORT & ONWARD TRAVEL
Porto
Indicative road journeys. The terminal, final address and traffic affect the time. Dotted ends link the road to the marked place; this overview is not a navigation map.
AFTER LANDING
Plan the rest of your journey
A Douro Valley visit extends well beyond the short city transfer shown on the map. Give the name or location of the estate rather than just the region, and include the return journey when planning a day trip. In central Porto, the last part of a transfer may depend on access to a narrow street or riverside address. For an itinerary continuing south, it can be worth comparing a return from another airport instead of retracing the entire road journey.
Before you arrive
Where should my driver meet me?⌄
Use the handling address and meeting instructions in your flight confirmation. A private flight may be served away from the main airline terminal.
What about passport and customs formalities?⌄
The arrangements depend on the flight’s origin, destination and passenger documents. Confirm these with the operating carrier before departure.
Can I return through a different airport?⌄
Yes, subject to the itinerary and operating arrangements. Share both addresses and dates so the complete trip can be compared.
