BBJ

Boeing launched the BBJ programme in 1996 and delivered the first aircraft in 1998. It combined the shorter 737-700 fuselage with strengthened components from the larger 737-800.

Model historyWhere it began and how it evolved

Boeing and General Electric created the BBJ programme to adapt the 737 platform for long-distance private travel. Airline seats were replaced by a customer-designed interior, while extra fuel capacity changed the aircraft’s mission. The project joined airline-scale cabin space with the needs of a much smaller travelling party.

Additional fuel tanks made intercontinental missions possible, while custom interiors ranged from private suites to group transport. The later BBJ2, BBJ3 and MAX variants have different dimensions and performance.
